They will also benefit from the opportunity to interact with local high school students, who will participate in the projects and lodge with the group.

They will be  learning about their culture and way of life. Participants will also have the opportunity to take advantage of spiritual activities such as daily Mass, and regular times for prayer.

This service project offers high school participants the opportunity to live solidarity. Through a maintenance and construction project that is both demanding and rewarding, volunteers will discover the great joy of sacrificing themselves for others.

The Program

Participants will spend a full week in Buenavista, a conference center of Opus Dei in Jarabacoa, a city in the mountainous region, north west of the capital Santo Domingo. The days will be spent clearing the forest near the conference center  and refurnishing classrooms in a nearby village school. Participants will spend time in sports and other social activities, and they will have the chance to go on a cultural and sightseeing trip in Santo Domingo and a hiking expedition to a nearby national park . There will be presentations about the history and geography of the Dominicana. 
 

Accommodations

All participants will stay at the youth village in the grounds of the Hacienda Buenavista.  

Application and Cost

  • The total cost of the trip is $350 plus airfare ($350 estimate). The cost includes all meals and local transportation.
