In November of 1937
a young priest named Josemaría Escrivá trekked over the Spanish Pyrenees to escape the religious persecution unleashed by the Spanish Civil War.
He wanted to continue the mission received from God to start Opus Dei. Guided by smugglers and travelling with a handful of young followers, they arrived safely in the neutral zone of Andorra after a difficult journey.
They faced cold temperatures, rough terrain, and the need to avoid patrols. But they were guided by their strong faith in God and the maternal care provided by Our Lady.
The journey was a profound spiritual experience for St. Josemaria
This Thanksgiving break Tekesta will take a group of high school students along this same route, and in the same spirit of adventure. We will spend 5 days hiking from Pallerols de Rialb to Andorra.
What To Know
-
We have limited space. The trip is limited to twelve (12) participants and three staff members (including a priest). Priority will be given to those who register early.
-
All participants will need to be in good physical shape. We will be hiking along challenging but well-marked trails for about 6-8 hours each day.
-
We are working closely with local guides and volunteers who have done this trip many times before. They will be assisting us with transportation and logistics. Although physically challenging we are confident that this will be a very safe experience.

Accommodations
We will be spending each night at a comfortable pilgrims’ lodge in Pallerols de Rialb. This is the same place where St. Josemaria started his journey (see attached map).
The church has been restored in recent years, and we will have access to simple but comfortable rooms equipped with bathrooms and a kitchen. We will not be sleeping outdoors or in the cold, like St. Josemaria and his companions did!
If you are not familiar with St. Josemaría’s crossing of the Pyrenees you can learn more about their inspiring and harrowing escape in this documentary
An information session for parents and participants will be held on Saturday October 4th or Sunday October 5th. If you have questions or if you want to hear more about the trip you will be invited to join us either in person or via Zoom.
